3 At-Home Recipes for Treating Dark Spots On Your Skin

For many individuals, dark spots serve as a source of embarrassment. Some feel that the only way that they can successfully treat dark spots is by getting extremely expensive treatments. While many natural treatments at beauty centres (see Shakura) do work, there is also an endless stream of home remedies that you can do yourself at home to treat dark spots. Today, for the sake of brevity, we are just going to focus on three. The good thing about these treatments is that they are safe, and they will not cost you an arm and a leg.

The following is only a few of the many home remedies for dealing with dark spots on the skin. An individual can find more home remedies by doing research and read some success stories of individuals who have been able to effectively remove dark spots from their skin.

Number One: Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is effective at fighting off dark spots because it is rich in vitamin C. When applied directly to the face, lemon juice will lighten dark spots in an effective manner. Cut a lemon in half, and squeeze the juice out of it. Then take a cotton ball, dip the cotton ball into the lemon juice, and put it on the areas where there are dark spots. Sit for approximately 10 minutes, and allow the lemon juice to dry. Then wash it off with warm water. This process should be repeated for two weeks.

Number Two: Buttermilk

Buttermilk is another effective home remedy for treating dark spots. In the same way that lemon juice has the power to fade blemishes, buttermilk can do the same. The lactic acid in milk has the ability to reduce skin pigmentation. The difference is that buttermilk will not negatively affect sensitive skin.

To apply buttermilk, take lemon juice, fresh tomato juice, and mix it with the buttermilk at 4:2 ratio. Apply this mixture to the dark spots, and leave it there for approximately 15 minutes, and then wash it off with lukewarm water. If buttermilk is not available, the same mixture can be made with 2 percent milk. The only difference is that it should only be left on the skin for 10 minutes. This process should be repeated two times a day for up to five weeks.

Number Three: Oats

Oatmeal and oatmeal powder are an effective way to remove dead skin. When dead skin is removed, the dark spots are removed with it. Use a cup of rolled oats and grind them thoroughly. Add 3 to 4 teaspoons of lemon juice, and mix this until it becomes a fine paste. Use this mixture as a scrub for your skin, and then leave it to dry for half an hour. Remove the oat mask with warm water. This process should be repeated twice a week.
