Have you found yourself setting excessively, to the point where it makes you self-conscious? Don’t be, there are many people who deal with this condition. Now, there are some general means you can use on your own, but of the excessive sweating is something that occurs when you are just sitting around, not doing anything, you need to look at other treatment options.

Here are a few different ways you can help combat the excessive sweating, which is also known as a hyperhidrosis treatment.

Antiperspirant

Naturally, if you deal with sweaty armpits, turn to antiperspirant. Sure, you use deodorant, but make sure it is of the antiperspirant variety. There are also extra-strength and clinical options. These provide extra protection in preventing the pours from sweating too much. So if you only see the large amount of sweat coming from your armpits, this is a good way to go.

Trim/Shave Armpit Hair

You don’t need to be a woman to trim/shave your pits. A thick bush of hair in your pits can cause additional sweating. Even if you don’t want to shave it down to nothing, break out the trimmer and cut it down to thin it out. This improves airflow and reduces the amount of sweating. If there are other areas of your body where you sweat an excessive amount and have a large amount of hair, consider performing the same practice and thin or shave the hair off.

Iontophoresis

This is considered a medical treatment. During the treatment, you’ll sit with your hands and/or feet in shallow water for about a half hour. A very low electrical current flows through the water. This helps block the sweat from generating on the skin’s surface. This is something you’ll have to do a few times a week, but it is pretty easy and not painful. Plus, there is an inexpensive machine you can purchase to use at home, so once you get the hang of it you won’t need to go into the doctor’s office any longer.

Botulinum Toxin

This is an injection based treatment (so if you do not like injections, this might not be the option for you). It can help with sweaty palms and other problems. Basically, you’ll receive an injection of botulinum toxin A, better known as Botox. This injection goes directly into the problem area, such as the hands, underarms, or anywhere else. This is a longer lasting treatment as a single injection can sometimes last close to a year. This way, you can do it and forget about it.

Anticholinergic Drugs

This is usually an option that comes after you have used Botox and iontophoresis and neither have worked. This is an oral drug that is used to stop the production of sweat glands. This basically shuts down all of the sweat glands in the body, which is why doctors do not really like to go this route, but will if nothing else works. It can have some side effects though, including blurred vision.
